Barbara’s arrival at St. Stephen’s Church was a beautiful gift to so many of us who knew her and have received the joy of joining The Order of Daughters of the King. When Fr. Michael Gray learned that she was a faithful and long-time member of The Order, he invited her to help begin a chapter at St. Stephen’s almost ten years ago. She said yes, and I am so very grateful that she did. DOK continues to offer women and young girls the commitment to pray, serve, and evangelize daily in all moments of our lives. Barbara taught us the enduring value of this sisterhood to our own lives and to making a difference in the lives of others through prayer. I will always be grateful that she was my very dear friend, my precious sister and wise mentor, and a lovely example of our DOK motto, “I can’t do everything, but I can do something. What I can do, I ought to do. Lord, what will you have me do?” Thanks be to God for knowing such a clear-minded, committed, and faith-filled Christian woman whose decision to say “yes” continues to advance the Gospel. I will remember Barbara and her devoted son Bill and wife Laura always with love.
