Barbara Ellen Mabe's Obituary
Barbara Ellen Owens Mabe, 81, of Catlett, VA passed away peacefully at her home on July 11, 2022 after a ten year battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born February 14, 1941 in Buchannon County, VA to the late Tom Tinker Owens and Martha Ellen Adams Owens.
Ellen and her husband moved to Northern Virginia in 1961 and settled in Manassas in 1966, where they raised four children. She never met a stranger and was loved by all that knew her. Ellen’s family was her world. She was active in their lives by being classroom mom, den mother, school volunteer, and team mom for various sports. She became the adoptive “mom” to many of her children’s friends and “MamMa” to the friends of her grandchildren.
She will be remembered for her loving heart, warm smile, friendliness, and welcoming arms. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend.
Ellen is survived by her children, Michael Mabe and wife, Rachel of West Augusta, VA, Sandra Sisk and her husband, Rick of Catlett, VA, Susan Mabe of Little River, SC, and Patti Neal and her husband, Don of Bealeton, VA; siblings, Janie Owens of Oakwood, VA and Vickie Owens Hall of Amissville, VA; grandchildren, Heather Sisk, Richard Sisk, Jr., David Kannard, Jr., Megan Mabe, Kevin Kannard, Donald Neal, III, Karen Newberry, Colby Neal, Jason Button, and Sarah Coppack; 13 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other extended family.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Lafayette “Leff” Mabe; siblings, Nancy Hutchinson, George Andrew Owens, Hannah Strunk, Rosemary Bentley, Vanessa Looney, and Tommy Joe Owens.
The family will receive friends Thursday, July 14, 2022 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Culpeper, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA 22701.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 15, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel with Pastor Martin Pickett officiating. The family invites those who are unable to attend to view the service via livestream link https://view.oneroomstreaming.com/authorise.php?k=1657732551195749
Interment will follow at Culpeper National Cemetery, 501 Chandler Street, Culpeper, VA 22701.
Pallbearers will be Rick Sisk, Don Neal, Richard Sisk, Jr., David Kannard, Jr., Kevin Kannard, Donald Neal, III, and Colby Neal.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Nathan Kannard, Noah Sisk, Jeremy Nunn, Haley Bishop, Hope Kannard, Phoenix Kannard, Bryce Bishop, Wyatt Sisk, Skye Kannard, Brody Kannard, Patricia Newberry, Ella Sisk, and Christopher Newberry.
