Arthur E. Hilker Jr.'s Obituary
Arthur E. “Bud” Hilker, Jr., 76, of Manassas, passed away on December 27, 2009.
He was born on Sept. 12, 1933 to the late Arthur E. Hilker, Sr. and Mary D. Hess at their family home in Martinsburg, WV. After graduating high school, Bud was married to his beloved wife, Teresa on Dec. 20, 1952. Shortly thereafter, he joined the US Air Force and began his lifelong passion in electronics by working on radar in the Philippines. Bud then went to work in quality assurance for Melpar, later acquired by Raytheon. His distinguished career there included working on numerous government programs and being awarded two patents, one which earned him the company’s Man of the Year award. Bud enjoyed working on projects, fixing things and genuinely loved helping people. He was often remembered for saying “if one man can build it, another can fix it”. Bud was active in the Fauquier Aero Recreational Modelers Club. He enjoyed building and flying model airplanes with his friends. He will be dearly missed by all that knew him.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Teresa; two sons, Randy and wife Cheryl, Steve and wife Connie; a sister, Wanda Porterfield and husband Rex; a brother, Kenny and wife Debbie; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Kerns and Jeannine Gregory; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will be held 2 o’clock on Sunday, January 3rd at the Manassas Baptist Church.
