April Suzanne Darnell's Obituary
April Suzanne (Frazier) Darnell (59), of Culpeper, VA, slipped peacefully into the presence of the Lord on Monday morning, January 30, 2023, in the comfort of her home and cradled in the arms of her beloved husband, Kyle Darnell.
April was born on April 17, 1963 to the late James Franklin Frazier and the late Betty Ann (Warring) Frazier. She was the second of three daughters – the middle child of the family and the one with contagious joy and spunk. As a child she loved playing school, playing cards, playing games, putting together puzzles, jumping rope, and being challenged in games of croquet on weekend family trips to Culpeper to visit extended family. April graduated from Christian Oaks Academy in 1981 and continued her education the following year at Oral Roberts University, in Tulsa, OK. She completed a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Education at Bethlehem Christian University. The most important passion and pursuit of April’s life, however, was God and His Word. She gave her life to Christ at a very young age and followed Him with her whole heart. She was also a gifted teacher of Scripture.
As an adult, April returned to teach at Christian Oaks Academy in the early 80’s and in 2004 she began a career at Culpeper Christian School teaching third grade, where she taught and served faithfully until 2022. One of the happiest days of April’s life was her wedding day. She cherished her role as wife to Kyle. Even though April was never blessed with children, she loved her two step daughters, her four nieces and six nephews, her twenty-five great-nieces and nephews, and a multitude of students over the years, as her own. She is remembered as “one of my favorite teachers” by many.
April is survived by her husband of twelve years, Kyle W. Darnell, Jr., her sister, Darlene (Frazier) Hoffman of Culpeper, VA, her sister Jeana (Frazier) Holdstock and her husband Steven of Durham, NC, and a vast extended family. There are no words that seem adequate to express how much April will be missed. She was the perfectionist pie-baker of the family and she brought so much life, love, generosity, creativity, and joy to her family and her friends.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation at 1:00 PM on Sunday, February 5, 2023, at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA 22701, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 2:00 PM.
