Annette Williams' Obituary
Annette Hamilton Williams passed away on March 10th, 2008, in Fredericksburg, VA following a long illness. Mrs. Williams was born in Clayton, NC, on June 6th 1922.
She was the firstborn child of Sadie and Colon Hamilton. Throughout her primary and secondary education, Mrs. Williams distinguished herself with highest academic honors, graduating as the valedictorian of her class and establishing a grade point average at Clayton High School that stood as a record for many years. She received a full scholarship to college, but, due to the exigencies of the depression and the impending Second World War, chose instead to pursue business school to enter the workforce as soon as possible. Mrs. Williams had five brothers and sisters, all of whom enjoyed successful careers and lives. She married James C. Williams on the 5th of September, 1942. With Annette’s constant and steady support, James pursued a highly successful career in the United States Army and subsequently in the United States Air Force. Together they enjoyed military assignments all over the world, including Okinawa, England and Turkey. James retired from the United States Air Force in 1965 and then entered the United States Civil Service, where he served with distinction until 1984, again with Annette’s constant support. James and Annette raised two sons, James C. Williams, Jr. and Richard S. Williams, both of whom followed in their parent’s footsteps and also pursued successful military careers. Annette was a consummate homemaker and mother who loved her family unconditionally and without reservation.
Annette is survived by her husband, James C. Williams; her two sons; her grandson, Richard S. Williams, Jr.; her daughters-in-law, Sue and Jody Williams, her step grandchildren, Eryn L. Hasty, Erica M. Leja, John C. Heenan, Jr, Sandra S. Heenan, and her step great grandson, Jack C. Heenan. Of her generation, she was the last surviving sibling. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Colin C. Hamilton, Jr., Maurice Grady Hamilton, Roger N. Hamilton and Robert G. Hamilton, and by her sister, Betty Hamilton Hatcher. She was an extraordinarily intelligent and devoted wife and mother who lived with tremendous intensity and purpose. Her family members, many of whom owe their successes to her in no small part, miss her greatly.
