Anne and I were teachers of French and Spanish at Middle Schools in Fauquier County. We often spoke of our crushing workloads because of our gift of knowing three languages. Every year at convocation (a giant back-to-school teacher meeting) Anne and I would meet and find each other. We would enjoy catching up. Anne and I were too busy to socialize outside of work. Anne retired first to take care of her parents. I had hoped to see her again when I retire this June but alas, when you finally have time for your friends they are no longer there. Don't take them for granted. I will always miss her; every convocation without her was a sad one. She was my friend in a very lonely profession. We were often the only language teacher in our schools. I am sorry not to be able to make the funeral but I was coming down with a flu and didn't want to make others sick.
I met my wonderful friend Anne (Anita) in 1973 when I started at UOP. We lived in the dorm, around the hallway from each other. She was fun, lighthearted, and warm. She was the Big sister I never had. We went to a lot of dances on campus ( in those days we wore full length dresses). She found someone to drive me to the hospital the night I broke my ankle! She always invited me to eat with her and her boyfriend in the dining hall when I was alone ( even though he would have preferred to have her to himself!) She & her roommate Maureen, threw me a surprise birthday party in their dorm room in November of 1973 ( even though my birthday is in July! LOL - a long story) I thank God that we had a long conversation, over an hour long, about one month before her passing. I told her how much I valued her and our friendship. That even though we didn’t see or talk to each other very frequently, that I always considered her if not my best friend, up there in the top three!! I will miss my sweet and kind friend very much! I love you Anita❤️- Diana Zulma Fayad!😊
