Angela Jimenez's Obituary
After a courageous battle with cancer, Angela Jiménez passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2015 in her Fredericksburg home at the age of 91.
Angela was born on January 6, 1924 in Licey, a small town in the Dominican Republic. She grew up in a large family consisting of nine brothers and sisters. Although they did not have many worldly possessions they were rich with love. At an early age Angela understood that love often required sacrifice and being the oldest child committed herself to taking care of her siblings. She lived the American dream. She immigrated to New York City in the early 1950’s. She worked two sometimes three jobs to bring her siblings one by one to the United States so they could have a better future and come to the land of opportunity. She truly believed that hard work and dedication could bring about a brighter future for her family. She instilled these teachings to her brothers and sisters who passed these strong values to their children and grandchildren.
Angela loved her family above all other things, and those that knew her could say she never hesitated in giving her opinion. After adopting and raising her daughter, Jinet Lopez, Angela became like a grandmother to all of her great nieces and nephews who refer to her as “Grandma”.
When diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 she battled through this illness fearlessly as she had with all the other obstacles in her life. After a remission of this illness, the cancer resurfaced in 2012. She persisted in her fight with cancer and remained a brave, iron-willed woman, even throughout her final months.
Angela leaves behind many loved ones including her daughter, Jinet Lopez; her son, Jose Ramon Reyes and her devoted niece, Becky Almodovar. She is also survived by her sister, Grecia Lopez; nieces, Maribel, Evelyn, and Gisselle; nephew, Antonio; and also has the love and devotion of the next two generations of grandchildren, nieces and nephews who love her and will treasure her memory forever.
Angela’s family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday, March 29, 2015 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg, with a rosary being said at 6:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at noon Monday, March 30, 2015 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1009 Stafford Ave., Fredericksburg. Interment will follow in Glen Haven Memory Gardens.
