Angela M. Grano, 89, of Mitchells, died Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Our Father’s House Christian Home. She was born April 13, 1928 in New Haven, CT to the late Salvatore and Carmilla Russo Maiorino. She is survived by her two children, John R. Grano, Jr. of Mitchells and Karen Grano of Manassas, and by four grandchildren, Jordan Grano, Evin Grano, Brandon Blatnik and Aidan Grano.
She is also survived by five great grandchildren: Arianna, Ryder, Griffin, Isabella and Treker Grano. They called her “GG.” She is also survived by one sister, Marilyn, in New Haven, CT and by many nieces and nephews who will miss her.
Angela was an extremely committed, some would say fierce, mother. She worked numerous part time jobs while a stay-at-home mom in Connecticut to help pay for higher education for her two children. Both have graduate degrees. She loved order, and as such, easily transitioned to become a payroll accountant for Marlin Firearms after her children had grown.
Angela and her husband John Sr., moved to Virginia in 1988 to spend more time with their grandchildren, including her youngest, Aidan, who was born that year. She loved to cook for her family, a passion she passed on to both of her children. Her Italian meat sauce, Pomodoro al carne, has been adopted by scores of families across the U.S. Her lasagna was legend in her family and never fully duplicated, despite myriad attempts.
While in Culpeper she was active in the Culpeper Women’s Club, the Altar Society at Precious Blood Catholic Church in Culpeper, and the GoodTimer’s Club at Mitchells Presbyterian. She loved her work as an elementary school reading tutor.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Grano, Sr., who died in 1994, and by two sisters, Louise and Virginia.
