Alva Eugene Butler's Obituary
Alva Eugene Butler, 75, of Culpeper died Monday, October 22, 2007 at his residence. He was born October 31, 1931 in Bowie, MD to the late Ashby Nelson Butler and Cora Thornton Butler.
Mr. Butler grew up in Washington, D.C. and graduated from Eastern High School. After graduation he went on to join the United States Coast Guard and served during the Korean Conflict. He retired as a computer programmer from the U.S. Geological Survey in 1980. In 1963 together with his brother Charles Kelly, he founded Butler Brother’s Corporation, a building contracting company which is now operated by his son Vince. Mr. Butler grew up as a baseball enthusiast, avidly cheering for the Orioles and Nationals. His knowledge for baseball was outstanding and led him to be a trivia expert. He was also a history buff and loved to read. His dream was always to build his own home and fulfilled that vision when he and his wife moved to Boston, VA where he wanted to live the remainder of his life and did so surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of fifty three years, Patricia Butler, two sons, Mark Butler and his wife, Barbara of Bradenton, FL, and Vince Butler and his wife, Monica of Manassas, VA, three siblings, Marie Crawford of Roanoke, VA, Arlene Martz of Augusta, GA, and Charles Kelly Butler of Springfield, VA, two grandchildren, Zachary Nelson Butler and Steven Ashby Butler, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ashby Nelson “Billy” Butler, Jr., and his sister, Elizabeth Tobin.
A private service will be held at a later date.
