Almeta Lucia Stubbs' Obituary
Almeta Lucia Dudley Eaddy Stubbs of Fredericksburg, VA and formerly of Jamaica, NY, departed this life peacefully on Monday, January 4, 2016 at Brookdale Assisted Living. She was born July 7, 1932, to the late Thomas L. Eaddy and Fannie Dudley in Bennettsville, SC. Almeta attended Old Marlboro Training High School in Bennettsville, SC and later attended Shaw University in Raleigh, NC.
After being raised in a Christian home, Almeta accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and joined Shiloh Baptist Church in Bennetsville. When she moved to Jamaica, NY, in 1953, she joined Friendship Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Charles H. Kingsbury, who is now deceased. Almeta later came under the leadership of Rev. Earnest Barnett. Almeta had been an active member for over fifty years, involved in various auxiliaries, however her favorite was singing on the Gospel Chorus. She had a beautiful melodious soprano singing voice that was admired by all. Almeta served as President of the Gospel Chorus and of the Willing Workers. Almeta dedicated her life to helping other, which she felt was her true calling. She was a Missionary for Christ and lived life to the fullest.
Almeta married Wilbert C. Stubbs of Bennettsville, and they resided in Queens, NY. They had one daughter Fanecia Deborah Stubbs Middleton, who now resides in Fredericksburg, VA. She worked at Ideal Toy Factory in Jamaica, NY for a number of years. Later, she worked at Creedmor State Hospital in Queens Village, NY, as a psychiatric therapy aide. Almeta worked for over 30 years at Creedmor until her retirement in 1994. She loved her family and had countless friends throughout the years. Almeta was best known for her sweet spirit and upbeat personality.
In 2009, she lost her beloved brother Charles L. Eaddy, who was loved and admired by all who knew him. During their childhood years, they went by the names of “Sister” and “Sonny”.
The trumpet sounded claiming victory for one of God’s servants and Almeta was summoned from labor to rest. Although she was loved by many, God loved her most. God saw her getting tired so he closed his arms around her and whispered, “Come home now, my beloved daughter.”
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude and appreciate for the many kind expressions of sympathy. A special thanks goes to Brookdale Assisted Living of Fredericksburg, VA and Mary Washington Hospice.
