Alice "Joye" Dennis Payne Scott's Obituary
Alice “Joye” Dennis Payne Scott
God gained a beautiful Angel on August 6, 2023 when Joye gained her wings.
She was born in Rappahannock County on October 10, 1933 to the late William Benton and Alice Viola (Zombro) Dennis.
She was a strong woman of faith and had many talents. Everything she touched bloomed. She loved music and played many instruments. Her crocheting and sewing were among her many talents. She penned a book “The Red Oak Speaks” which was one of her most prideful accomplishments. Joye and her husband, Bill, were proprietors of Payne’s Texaco and Pratt’s Grocery in Madison, VA for many years. A full and fruitful life was had by this precious woman.
Joye was preceded in death by her first husband, Ralph “Bill” Payne (father of her two daughters); second husband, Rufus Scott; her daughter, Sheila Payne Aylor and her siblings: William Benton Dennis, Jr. (Jean), Ruth Virginia Beddingfield (Guthrie), Thomas Jackson Dennis (Eleanor), Warren Emerson Dennis (Mary), Gloria Viola Osteen (Thomas), Clarice “Lita” Henderson (Vernon), Colleen Hope Lewis (Cecil), and Richard Conway Dennis (Pat); step son, Ray Scott (Sharon) and step daughter in law, Joyce Scott.
Survived by her daughter, Lynda Payne (Donald Bryant), grandchildren: Sarah Durham (Mike), R. Adam Racine (Julie), Y. Alice Racine (John Burnette), Austin Racine and two step granddaughters: Virginia Scott and Jennifer Kincanon; great grandchildren: Drew Durham, Emily Durham, Lucas Durham, Jackson Durham, Madeline Racine, Evelyn Burnette, Parker Racine and Jack Burnette; son in law, Davy Aylor; step sons: Mike Scott (Pat), Philip Scott and Bruce Scott (Terri); step daughters: Ella Faye Heister and Clairene Jorella. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews that held a special place in her heart.
A special thanks to Kenny Campbell, Vada Holcomb, Payton Knott and the many nurses/aides at the Albemarle Health and Rehab for their loving care. Also a grateful appreciation to Heartland Hospice.
