Alice Fletcher Crossman's Obituary
Alice Fletcher Crossman, 90, passed away peacefully at her home, Friday, November 29, 2013. She was born August 8, 1923 in Madison County to the late Alonzo Parker Martz and the late Alice Edmonia Nicholson Martz.
Mrs. Crossman was an avid gardner and antique collector in addition to being an active member of Culpeper Baptist Church. Known as a caring and giving person, she particularly enjoyed entertaining in her home. Her life was marked by an ethic of accomplishment and a love for family. She took on the role of care-giver for her family at the age of 9 when her mother died, a role she continued for the rest of her life. She taught by example and was always present and supportive in the lives of her family.
She was married to Bernard L. Fletcher, father of her son B. Thomas Fletcher, in 1950. Some years after her husband’s death, she married Ludwig E. Crossman, who passed away in 1996.
Mrs. Crossman is survived by a son, B. Thomas Fletcher and his wife, Vickie, of Culpeper. Additional survivors include two grandchildren, A. Garvey Fletcher of Culpeper and Catherine Doty Fletcher-Marrotte and her husband, Paul, of New Smyrna Beach, Florida. Other survivors include four great-grandchildren and a brother, Lawrence E. Martz.
In addition to her parents and her husbands, she is preceded in death by a brother, Ardell John Martz, and four sisters, Anne Michno, Irene M. Miller, Essie Muscolino, and Ella M. Adamson.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, Virginia.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the Found and Sons chapel.
Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
