Miela Daiva,

I am so saddened by Al’s passing. His kind spirit, helpfulness and smile will be greatly missed. Wishing the family courage and peace during this time of mourning.

I met Al at St. Johns in Warrenton when he was an active member of our parish and he was always faithful, I remember him and Daiva sitting in their usual pew and he was always there with Daiva. Anytime I got to speak with him, I'd learn something new about his life and his deep knowledge of history and the Catholic faith. I never saw Al get angry nor did I see him raise his voice or lash out at anyone. In 2023 he came and spoke at St. Johns in Mercy Hall on his time being persecuted for his faith and how his family had been in the Gulag. I wish I had recorded the talk. Al was a man of deep faith and he loved his family. He will be greatly missed. Daiva, her Mother, Maria, and John, my condolences to you all. May he rest in the arms of the Jesus and the Blessed Mother, surrounded by the angels and the Saints.
It has been an absolute pleasure working alongside Al for nearly four years, and these past two weeks back in the office have only deepened my appreciation for him. I was truly honored by his presence—every day, without fail, he would get up from his desk and come over to share another beautiful picture of his family and dogs, each one accompanied by a heartfelt story that reflected just how proud he was of them. It was clear that his family meant the world to him. I’ll always remember those small but meaningful interactions that made working with Al such a joy. I will miss him deeply.

We are so very sorry to learn of Al's passing. He was one of "our people" in our Church community and we'll miss him on Sundays and Holy days. We feel the loss already. We will be praying for him and his family. May God hold you all close to His loving, consoling and merciful heart!

For several years, Al and I have exchanged cheerful and often humorous morning greeting in office, which kept our spirits high during each workday. Al will remain in dear memory forever. Since I am in Croatia now, I can only express my deepest condolences to Daiva, Maria and John in a written form. From: Al's colleague Zorz Crmaric
