Alan F. Straubel's Obituary
Alan F. Straubel passed away Saturday, January 28, 2012 surrounded by his family at Mary Washington Hospital.
Al was born April 10, 1942 in Jersey City, NJ and grew up in Teaneck, NJ. He spent most of his life in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, finally settling in Northern Virginia in 1999.
Growing up, Al’s family summered at the family-built home in Highland Lakes, NJ. It was at this early age that he began his lifetime of community involvement through the Boy Scouts, where, at a young age he proudly achieved the highest rank of Eagle Scout. Al graduated college with a BS in Business from Susquehanna University. During this time he was an active member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and the Army National Guard, where he honorably served for six years.
Throughout his life, Al was actively involved in local government, Jaycee’s, Town Council, Boy Scouts and All Saints Church in Glen Rock, NJ.
Al was a busy and successful National Sales Manager for collections and insurance, but always made time for his passion – landscape design and construction. For years to come, Al’s landscape clients will forever be able to enjoy the beauty he created for them through landscaping.
He will be forever missed by his family – his loving wife, Lynn; his children, Kathy, Chris and Amy; his daughter-in-law, Beth; his sons-in-law, Adam and Paul; his brother, Richard; his grandchildren, Caitlyn and Ryan; and his nephews, cousins and much-loved friends.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, February 2, 2012 at 6pm at Found and Sons Funeral Chapels-Cremation Service, 10179 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg, VA 22407. Burial will be held in George Washington Cemetery in Paramus, NJ in the spring – details to follow.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 179, Fredericksburg, VA 22404.
