I am so sorry to read this. Randy was in my wedding to Tom Young in 1996. Randy and Tom played a ton of tennis together (big oh boy - the dialog that went on). He offend stayed at our house in Richmond and I got to know Evan when he was young. We had lost touch over the last few years and I told Tom he needed to get together with Randy. This shows you- reach out to people you haven’t seen in a bit while you still have the time. You never know. Rest in peace, Randy! I enjoyed knowing you.
Although the popularity of, and interest in, the game of tennis has diminished in the country from its '70s and '80s heyday, Coach Garr has held the line for our kids -- maintaining strong programs, including his long stint at Riverbend, and insisting on excellence. His community, including this writer, owe him a debt. We will look out for the boys, Randy. Rest well.

I was saddened to hear about the passing of Randy. I met Randy the first year i went to work at Riverbend 2007,he talked me into helping him with the tennis team that year. After that he became a friend for life. We shared many stories together. He helped change so many young lives during his teaching and coaching career. He will be greatly missed.
I was very shocked and saddened to hear this news. I worked with Randy as I started my teaching career at Chancellor over 20 years ago. He was always a great person to talk to and after he retired from teaching and subbed at Chancellor, he made sure to find me in the building to say hello and catch up with me talking sports and life in general. You will be missed my friend but not forgotten.
I am so sorry to hear the news about Randy! He and I taught together for a number of years at Riverbend High school in the same PE department. Sending condolences to his son and family during these difficult days ahead.
From the day I met Randy I knew that we were going to be good buddies. He always had such a sense of humor and never passed up the opportunity to tell a new joke.
While there are so many things that I’ll remember Randy for, being a tremendous mentor and friend is at that top of that list for me. He took me under his wing almost immediately, and like the great coach that he was, he made sure I knew that he had my back and would always be willing to stick his neck out for me if I ever needed it. He was a great man who’s memory I’ll always keep close to my heart.
My condolences to the family. Randy was a great coach, mentor and friend to me. He was always positive and helpful. He will be missed by many.

Coach Garr was an amazing coach and friend, always looking to inspire and help the RHS tennis team. I'll really miss his kindness and excitement.
Miss you Star Garr! We all will take care of Evan. Love you, bro ~ Lynne
