    Nancy Mae Brown

    April 17, 1931 - April 18, 2022

Nancy Brown (née Price), daughter of Guy Price and Ida Price, wife of Clarence Brown, Sr, and beloved sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home on April 18, 2022 after a long illness. She was 91. Mrs. Brown was born on April 17, 1931 in King George, VA. At a young age she moved with her family to a family farm in Falmouth, VA in Stafford County. She had 13 brothers and sisters, and all helped work the family farm. After graduating from Stafford High School, Mrs. Brown worked for a short time at Arlington Hall for the Department of Defense in Arlington, VA. While working there, she met her husband Clarence. After marriage, Nancy and Clarence moved to the Washington DC area. Mrs. Brown became a home-maker, and she and Clarence raised four children, two sisters and two brothers. In the early 1970s, Mrs. Brown, Clarence, and her family moved back to Stafford County to be closer to her family. At that time Mrs. Brown began a long career with Stafford County Schools, first as a bookkeeper at Stafford Middle School, and then assisting with the management of the school buses for the entire school system. Mrs. Brown retired in the mid-1990’s, respected and beloved by all with whom she came in contact. In her off-hours, Mrs. Brown was very active with family. In one instance, she became a very successful and respected Little League manager for two of her grandchildren in Stafford County when no other manager could be found. All of her players knew her for her supportive hugs, while the opposing managers respected her knowledge of the game. After retirement, Mrs. Brown remained very active with family, as well as annually working her vegetable and flower gardens. She also loved rooting for and watching the Washington football team and the Washington Nationals baseball team. Clarence pre-deceased Mrs. Brown in 2017, but she continued to be very active and spry. Mrs. Brown is survived by two sisters, Jean Price Toombs and Ida Price Davenport, both of the Fredericksburg, VA area; one brother, Roy Price of King George, VA; two daughters, Cindy Jones (Malcolm Jones) of Fredericksburg, VA and Christy Davis (Jeff Davis) of Spotsylvania, VA; two sons, C. Ray Brown Jr (Debbie Brown) of Rotonda West, FL and Michael Brown (Elizabeth Brown) of Falls Church, VA; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who adored her. A graveside service will be held for Mrs. Brown at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Fredericksburg, VA at 12pm on Friday May 6, 2022. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
