December 24, 1935 - October 28, 2021
Mary Eve Hassinger, 85, of Spotsylvania County passed away Thursday, October 28, 2021 at her home. Mary was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed spending time with family. Prior to retirement, she spent many years in education where she enjoyed helping to impact the lives of many children. She was an avid traveler. She and her husband loved to go on cruises. They also enjoyed their trips in search of covered bridges in Pennsylvania and to see the fall foliage in New England just to name a few. Among her hobbies, she was very proud of her work as a hospice volunteer as well as volunteering at her church. She enjoyed painting and we are very lucky to have pieces of furniture that display this hidden talent. It was important for Mary to know about her family history. She spent many weekends traveling to the city where her family is from to visit relatives and to share stories. Mary is survived by three daughters, Cyndie Keyser (Ray) of Tennessee, Karen Fulton (Brad) of Stafford County, and Kathleen Furr (Douglas) of Spotsylvania; son, Timothy Hassinger (Cheryl) of Spotsylvania; five grandchildren, David Mock (Erin), Robert Hassinger (Katie), Victoria Buchheit, Jennifer Buchheit, and Josh Hassinger; five great-grandchildren, Matthew, Carter, Kade, Amelia, and Ashlyn; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Ira Hassinger; three children, Teresa, David, and Ann Hassinger; brother, Jerry Knott; and a granddaughter, Amanda Furr. Mary’s family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 8200 Robert E. Lee Drive, Spotsylvania. Burial will be private in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. The family would like to thank the team at At-Home Care and Hospice for the caring professionalism and comforting compassion that they showed to our mother. The family would like to also thank our honorary sister, Frankie Agnes, for her dedication to Mom and the family during her final months.
