Our beloved son Joseph Levi Fleming died as a result of an overdose. He was 23 years old. Although this was a heartbreaking end to his earthly walk, this was not his whole story. Joseph loved the outdoors. Hunting, fishing, camping and exploring the woods were some of his favorite things. He was a creative artist who loved to draw and write stories and create things out of ordinary everyday items. He was a very hard worker but he always had to find a way to make his work environment a little more fun and enjoyable. Above all else, Joseph LOVED fiercely. There wasn’t a friend he couldn’t make. He never hesitated to help anyone in need, even if he had just met you. Whether a wounded animal or a wounded human heart, he would do what he could to heal the broken or hurting. He loved to make people laugh and was known for both his big cheesy smile and that mischievous smirk that let you know something hilarious was churning in that mind. Some have said it perfectly “I can’t recall a time I didn’t see a smile on your face Joseph”. Joseph is survived by his parents John and Dee (Darlene) Fleming; his brothers Ryan, Jacob (and his wife Rebecca), his youngest brother Joshua; his maternal grandmother Marilan Bryant; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Ed and Jean Fleming; his maternal grandfather Robert “Pops” Bryant; his aunt Chrissy Bryant; his cousin Julian Fleming; and most recently his best friend Isaac Dean. Addiction is an epidemic. Although this is something that Joseph wrestled with, he never would have wished it for anyone else. If you are struggling with addiction, please talk to someone. Joseph’s 23 years were a gift to us and to anyone who knew him. His joy and unconditional love could only have come straight from our loving Heavenly Father. God IS Love and Joe truly walked that out every day. The smiles and laughs he brought to our faces will never fade. His loving, caring spirit will live on through all of us as we forever honor his memory and his life. A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, October 20, 2017 from 5 to 7 pm at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA. Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Culpeper is serving the family.
