James Littleton Paytes

March 14, 1939 - March 29, 2022

James Littleton Paytes, 83, of Rappahannock Academy passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at Mary Washington Hospital. James enjoyed fishing and playing horseshoes and enjoying life and spending time with family and friends. His family and friends will miss him dearly. We know his daughter Patty and his best friend and brother Al who he was missing so much were there to welcome him with open arms. He was born on March 14, 1939 in Paytes, Virginia and was the son of the late Fred and Irene Talley Paytes. He is survived by his children, Tracey Paytes, and Tammy Paytes of Spotsylvania, Judy Johnson of Fredericksburg, and James Littleton Paytes Jr. of Stafford; thirteen grandchildren, Misty, Johnny, Chad, Kevin, Joey, John, Jessica, Gordie, Sarah, Sarina, Trevor, Piper and Bo; eight great-grandchildren Jocelyn, Jacob, Tyler, Lexi, Cody, Joshua, Aaron and Raelynn; one great-great grandchild, Oliver; and three sisters, Betty Scott, Dottie Lumpkin and Joyce Oliver; sister-in-law, Patricia Paytes; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his daughter, Patty Hatty; sisters, Elizabeth Holden, Jeanette Lane and Inez McDonald; and brothers, Harvey, Fred and Alvin Paytes. A memorial gathering will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg.
