Oh, Bessie Mae, we hadn't heard, and we're so sorry. We remember John saying he wasn't doing well when we saw you at the musical, but we hoped and prayed for the best. It seems as if we've known you and John forever, and indeed it has been since the 60s. John was such a special human being, and he deserved the love we all gave him. We miss him, and we send you our love and support.

John, you were one of my first friends in Culpeper, and became one of my best friends. We laughed and joked of our shared shortness of stature for which we compensated for with increasing girth as we aged. I will miss your smile, your humor, and, most especially, your honesty of character. You were a good man.
